Mary Maxine Wells

Mary Maxine Wells, 89, of Hamilton, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Montebello Health Care Center in Hamilton. She was born on July 19, 1923 in Wythe Township, IL, a daughter of Ray and Marie Nagel Buckert. She married John Freeman Wells on July 1, 1940 in Fort Madison, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 28, 1973.

Survivors include two children: Gene (Linda) Wells of Ottumwa, Iowa and Brenda (Tim) Etter of Nauvoo, IL; three sisters: Hazel Beeler of Warsaw, IL, Bernice (George) Clark of Sutter, IL and Beulah Luft of West Point, IL; three brothers: Carroll (Suzanne) Buckert of Carthage, IL, Paul (Betty) Buckert of Hamilton, IL and Leo Buckert of Warsaw, IL; grandchildren: Jan Seyfert of Hamilton, IL, Mike (Denise) Wells of Stockport, IA, Lori Phelps of Colchester, IL, Scott (Brenda) Wells of Ollie, IA, Terry Cheney Wells of Fairfield, IA, Jon Wells of Fort Madison, IA, Jim (Kathy) Wells of Kahoka, MO, Chad (Lynette) Etter of Fox River Grove, IL, Darcie Etter of Macomb, IL, Sarah Etter of Macomb, and Matthew Wells of Fort Madison, IA; eight great grandchildren and another due in November and one great great granddaughter; and a daughter-in-law: Joyce Reddick of Danville, Iowa. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, five children: Donnie Wells, Kevin Wells, Larry Wells, Wayne Wells and Lesa Willis; a grandson: Terry Wells; a great grandson: Darrell Gonterman; three sisters: Blanche Slothouber, Goldie Caley and a sister in infancy and a son-in-law: Noel Willis.

Mary attended school in Sutter, IL. She was a member of Hamilton First Christian Church. Mary babysat in her home and took in laundry and ironing for many years. She had also driven the Hamilton Senior Citizens Bus. She also delivered papers for Daily Gate City. She enjoyed taking care of her vegetable and flower gardens and playing cards. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family. Services will be held Friday, August 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home in Hamilton with Mark Hanson officiating. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 16, 2012 after 2:00 PM with the family meeting friends between 5:00 and 8:00 at Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Home of Hamilton.

Memorials have been established for Alzheimer Association or Montebello Health Care Center.
