John Russell “J. R.” Munson, 62, of Hamilton, IL, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. He was born on June 29, 1951 in Wenatchee, Washington, the son of Arthur Loren and Selma Amelia Miller Munson. He married Sharon Kay Burgess on November 21, 1974 in Nauvoo, Illinois. She survives in Hamilton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Angela (Charles) Pruden of Davenport, IA, and Christal (Shawn) Lee of Tennessee, IL; two sons: John Russell Munson, II of Hamilton, IL, and James Joshua (Stephanie) Munson of Hamilton, IL; a brother: Loren (Berni) Munson of Stone Mountain, GA; and six grandchildren: Shane and Domanicko Lee of Tennessee, IL, William James Munson of Moline, IL, and Jasmine Roshelle, Ethan James, and Evelyn Rosemary Munson of Hamilton, IL.
J.R. was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Richard Lee Munson; a daughter: Shelley Sue Munson; and a granddaughter: Sheena Lee.
J.R. graduated from Hamilton High School and Carl Sandburg College. He had worked at Hamilton Water and Sewer Department until moving to Moline, IL. He continued work at Moline Water Treatment Plant and at South Slope and North Slope Waste Water Treatment Plants, Moline. He and his wife returned to Hamilton in 2003, after his retirement. He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Nauvoo Stake. J. R. was a handy man, and made many home renovations. He enjoyed bowling and joking with friends. J.R. especially loved the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 13, 2014 at1:00 PM at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 380 Durphy Street, Nauvoo, IL, with Bishop David Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Elvaston City Cemetery, Elvaston, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in memory of John Russell Munson. Lamporte - St. Clair Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements.
